KDOND_BEARWIN_MEILY_009

Dubbed as the ‘Hari ng Sablay,’ comedian Bearwin Meily always fails to predict the amount his briefcase contains whenever a fellow Lucky Star plays in the hit game show “Kapamilya Deal or No Deal.”

But all of that changed last Monday (Mar 23) when his gut feel turned out to be right as his chosen briefcase number 14 contained the P1 million jackpot, making him the first celebrity millionaire this season.

It was an intense game as it boiled down to only two amounts in the money board— P100,000 and P1 million.

Bearwin got emotional when he declined the Banker’s offer of P614,000 for the sake of entertaining the viewers.

“I am here to play. From the very beginning this briefcase was just assigned to me. It’s just money. P614,000 can be gone in just a month. I want to play,” said Bearwin before pressing the ‘No Deal’ button.

Excitement and joy then filled the studio as host Luis Manzano finally opened Bearwin’s briefcase. The Lucky Stars immediately ran up the stage and congratulated him.

“All I want for our episodes is just for us and for our viewers to have fun. It’s not about the money,” he explained.

Will one of the remaining Lucky Stars bag the jackpot in the coming episodes?

Don’t miss “Kapamilya Deal or No Deal,” weekday afternoons, 5 PM, on ABS-CBN’s Kapamilya Gold. Meanwhile, viewers may also catch up on full episodes and past episodes of “Kapamilya Deal or No Deal” through ABS-CBNmobile. For more information, please go to www.abscbnmobile.com.

TFC@theMovies is bringing to 33 theaters the most successful Cinema One Originals film to date That Thing Called Tadhana
There are two things that define the Filipino romantic comedy: ‘kilig’ and manufactured conflict. The former is the fuel that makes the engine run, the ephemeral feeling that fans of the genre will chase for the rest of their lives. The latter is a necessary detour to make the formula work; some strange contrivance that pushes the characters apart so they can get together in the end for more kilig. What is strange and ultimately so memorable about That Thing Called Tadhana is that it eschews both. Even with a premise that feels unlikely, it builds a relationship that feels so much closer to what people experience in real life.” – Philbert Ortiz Dy, ClickTheCity.com
That Thing Called Tadhana, written and directed by Antoinette Jadaone, with an award-winning performance by Angelica Panganiban, shown with co-star JM de Guzman.

For film writer-director Antoinette Jadaone, Cinema One Originals’ That Thing Called Tadhana is her “dream project” and described it as “more than 10 years’ worth of love stories, heartaches, heartbreaks, bitterness, and acceptance.”

That Thing Called Tadhana written and directed by Antoinette Jadaone, with an award-winning performance by Angelica Panganiban, shown with co-star JM de GuzmanThat dream won the prestigious 2014 Don Carlos Palanca Memorial Awards for Literature for Jadaone, Php 2 million budget granted by Cinema One Originals to produce the movie, sold-out screenings at the 2014 Cinema One Originals Film Festival late last year, Best Actress Awards for lead actress Angelica Panganiban at said filmfest and at the 13th Gawad Tanglaw (tied with Nora Aunor for “Dementia”), and Audience Choice and Champion Bughaw for Full-Length Feature awards aside from being nominated as Best Picture also at the 2014 Cinema One Originals filmfest.

The film opens in the US on March 27 with English subtitles

But what went beyond Jadaone’s dreams was that her Php 2-million film grossed over Php 120 million in the Philippines in less than three weeks, making it the most successful Cinema One Originals film release yet.  Moreover, this little-film-that-could will now be screened internationally through TFC@theMovies which will bring it to 33 theaters in the U.S. starting this Friday, March 27.

Starring Panganiban and JM de Guzman as Mace Castillo and Anthony Lagdameo, respectively, and joined by Joem Bascon, the film – which takes viewers from a chance meeting between Mace and Anthony at the airport in Rome to their impromptu adventure to Baguio and Sagada as they converse about broken hearts – has become so popular among moviegoers that a 4-day “Tadhana Tour” of Baguio and Sagada was even offered by a travel group.

Top Filipino critics sing a chorus of praise:

What starts out as an innocent gesture of kindness, ends up as a road trip across Luzon. Like ‘Before Sunrise’, the film is a simple observation of two conversing individuals. There is no elaborate romantic setup, and no arbitrary goal. But in the latest film by writer-director Antoinette Jadaone, the story simply relies on words, time and two people.” – Zig Marasigan, Rappler.com

The movie avoids the overly melodramatic scenes and loud confrontation scenes that have long been the norm in dramatic movies. It also avoids being just a Filipinized version of all the nice foreign rom-coms that have come our way. The acting is natural, the situations not forced. The ending, provocative then smart.” – Mari-Ann Santos, pep.ph

The film has the right blend of romance and comedy laced with realistic, down-to-earth, and relatable dialogue. Angelica and JM deliver superb performances as they ignite and arouse the sensibilities of every moviegoer with their palpable on-screen chemistry.” – Isah V. Red, Manila Standard Today

Another thing that it does right is focusing on these 20-somethings’ lives; they’re somewhat jaded, their early dreams faded or replaced by demands of reality. For all its spotlight on dreary life and treacherous love, the film has redeeming optimism. It fits all that in one talky, painful catharsis of a movie, and for that, those who relate to it have much to be thankful for.” - Oliver M. Pulumbarit, Inquirer.net

And the greatest lesson of ‘Tadhana; is that we should not run away from heartbreaks because in the long run, it would make us better. Just look at Direk Antoinette. Not only did she discover her capability to write, she also produced a film that would help broken hearted people recover, or at the very least, laugh.” – Carla Bianca V. Ravanes, The Manila Times

“A dream came true for an industry colleague, Antoinette Jadaone, through That Thing Called Tadhana, and the spirit of that dream, which is hope in the face of the challenges of reality, is what makes this movie very special,” said ABS-CBN Global Head of Theatricals and acclaimed film, TV and concert stage director John-D Lazatin.  “This film is a perfect offering for spring in North America which is a season of change and a time for new beginnings.”

Namimilipit sa sakit si Ara Galang

Atom Araullo tackles accidents caught on camera that are not for the faint-hearted this Wednesday (March 25) in “Reali-TV.”

Basketball and volleyball are sports that showcase some of the best athletes in the world, and at times, the most talked about freak injuries. Basketball star Allan Caidic, the legendary “Triggerman,” once got clipped in the air and landed hard on the floor that made him vomit as cameras rolled before being rushed to the hospital during his playing days. DLSU Lady Spiker Ara Galang suffered a gruesome injury that was caught on cam after her knee gave out when she landed after spiking the ball.

Freak accidents happen everywhere and a racehorse jockey was not spared. Cameras caught one of the top jockeys in years past fall of his horse and get trampled by the other racers paralyzing him for the rest of his life.

However, not all freak accidents end badly. Isabelle Trinidad figured in a car accident in SLEX that robbed her of her right leg. It did not stop her from pursuing her interests such as pole dancing, ice skating, and modelling, proving that one should not be burdened by disability to stop going for their dreams.

All that and more in this Wednesday (Mar 25) in “Reali-TV,” 4:30 PM on ABS-CBN. Follow their Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/ABSCBNRealiTV) at Twitter (@ABSCBNRealiTV) accounts for updates.

Also part of ABS-CBN’s new weekday current affairs block are Julius Babao in “Mission Possible” (Monday), Karen Davila, Atty. Claire Castro, and K Brosas in “3-in-1” (Tuesdays), Dyan Castillejo in “Sports U” (Thursdays), and Anthony Taberna in “Tapatan ni Tunying” (Fridays).

They said parenthood is something special.

It changes your lifestyle, priorities, actions, and your entire humanity.

Or so they say.

However, Nonito Donaire believes that having Jarel, his little boy, and his soon to be younger brother, a blessing way beyond the fame and riches that victory in the ring entails.

“It just makes you proud seeing how he’s figuring colors, numbers, all that stuff, it just makes you proud,” Nonito shared about his little boy, “I’m excited to also see it in my second baby boy. The feeling is something you can’t compare with.”

Nonito shared during the initial presser for Pinoy Pride 30: D-Day held in Gloria Maris at Gateway Mall that he’s the only one who’s been going back and forth in the country as he prepares for his comeback fight against William Prado. His wife, Rachel, is due for another baby boy to play alongside Jarel.

“It pains me to be away from them for so long,” he shared, revealing how his son did not even want to let go of his dad’s hand in the airport.

Asked if he’d allow his eldest to follow the path he’s taking, he did not have any conservation saying “Jarel is free to choose on his own. I’ll be there to support him whether it will be boxing or if he decides to pursue soccer,” revealing that there’s no TV during the weekends for the young Donaire owing to soccer practice. “He also packs a mean right, you know,” the former five-division champ shared.

Being away from his family only seems to strengthen the Filipino Flash. The thought of rejoining them as soon as the fight card of Pinoy Pride 30: D-Day, to be held at the Araneta Coliseum this coming 28th, is over is what pushes him towards his triumphant return.

Pinoy Pride 30: D-Day is a joint offering from ABS-CBN and ALA Promotions. The fight card headlined by reigning WBO Flyweight titlist Donnie “Ahas” Nietes and Nonito Donaire, Jr. shall take place on March 28 at the Big Dome at 6PM. You can catch the action live on Skycable Pay-Per-View and will be aired at ABS-CBN and ABS-CBN Sports + Action on Sunday (March 29) at 9:45AM.

“Tadhana” is inspired by Richard Linklater’s 1995 classic, “Before Sunrise.” The Cinema One Originals film follows the story of two Filipino strangers, Mace (Angelica Panganiban) and Anthony (JM de Guzman) who bump into each other at Rome’s airport. At the check-in counter, a struggling Mace who made countless attempts to pass the baggage load requirements was saved with the help of Anthony. After landing in Manila, the two eventually decide to travel together up north to Baguio and Sagada in the quest to search for the answer to the question, “where do broken hearts go?”
